Discrimination in connection with sales of services
If you buy a service, e.g. if you book a hotel room or rent a car, are treated by a dentist or join a dating website, the seller can, as a main rule, not refuse to sell to you or demand a higher price solely because you are from Denmark. As a main rule, you are entitled to receive the service in question at the same low price as other EU citizens.
Discrimination in connection with sales of products
In some countries it is also forbidden to discriminate against buyers of products on the grounds of nationality. If the seller is based in a country where such a ban exists, the seller can, as a main rule, not refuse to sell to you or demand a higher price solely because you are from Denmark. As a main rule, you are entitled to receive the product in question at the same low price as other EU citizens.
Cases of legal discrimination
Nationality is never in itself a valid reason for discrimination. However, a seller may refuse to sell products or services, or may demand a higher price, if there are objective reasons for doing so. For example, it may be very expensive to send the product to Denmark, or the seller does not have the necessary approval to sell the products or services in Denmark.
Getting help in connection with a complaint
If a seller discriminates against you because of your nationality and it is not possible to find a solution, you can complain to European Consumer Centre Denmark.
