Foreign guarantee rejected in Denmark?

Article

Some consumers are rejected by the Danish importer/dealer when, based on a Europe guarantee or the like, they want goods bought abroad to be repaired. In some cases this happens even though it appears directly from the written guarantee that the goods can be handed in for repair in Denmark.

In some cases the reason given is that the guarantee is false or that no agreement has been made concerning assistance between the issuer of the guarantee and the Danish importer/dealer.

In other cases the importer/dealer does not contest the fact that they handle guarantee cases for the producer concerned. Instead they refuse that there is a defect or that it is a defect comprised by the guarantee.

If it is truly a false guarantee which has been prepared and delivered by the seller, neither the producer nor a Danish importer/dealer can be held responsible for the contents of the guarantee. In that case you must contact the seller and invoke your claim against the seller.

In cases where a Danish importer/dealer rejects a foreign guarantee for one of the reasons mentioned above, we recommend that you contact the European Consumer Centre for additional guidance.
