Do you know when you are entitled to a product exchange or to get your money back? Or when the vendor is entitled to reject your claim? Find help in the Sale of Goods Act Guide, which explains the Act in nine short points.

  • Keep the receipt
    Always keep your slip or receipt from a purchase.
  • Complain as quickly as possible
    Complain to the vendor in cases where there are e.g. manufacturing defects.
  • Your claim rights
    If the product is defective, you may have it exchanged, repaired, or you can have your money refunded.
  • Examination fee
    Under certain conditions, the vendor is entitled to claim a fee if the product turns out not to be defective after all.
  • If the vendor rejects your claim
    If the vendor rejects your claim, you may complain to the Consumer Complaints Board.
  • No right of cancellation
    Unless otherwise agreed, you cannot cancel a purchase made in a shop.
  • Two-year right of complaint
    The salesperson must respond to your complaint throughout the period irrespective of the party on whom the burden of proof rests.
  • Only 1-2 repairs
    Normally, the vendor may exchange or repair a product not more than twice. After that, you are entitled to a refund.
  • Guarantee is best
    A guarantee must set you in a better position than the Sale of Goods Act. The Sale of Goods Act is always applicable.
